Koshi Chime, a favourite sound healing instrument. They leave everyone relaxed and in wonder during Yoga Savasana and Sound Healing Baths. These majestic chimes are handmade in France at the foot of the Pyrenean mountains. Inspired by the Earth element, the Koshi Terra chime may evoke grounding, stability and serenity. The lowest-pitched tuning in the 4 Elements collection, it unfolds melodies with a warm and grounded sound, in which low notes naturally interact with clearer harmonics. Tuned to 432 Hz, the Koshi Terra chime offers a broad and enveloping resonance, carried by a strong harmonic coherence. The 4 Elements collection is available in four melodies, based on nature's elements
Terra (earth)
Aqua (water)
Aria (air)
Ignis (fire)
Each has its own magic timbre and can be played harmoniously with all the others. Move the chime gently holding it by its cord: the crystalline relaxing sound may leave you in quiet wonder. Suspended, it will play with the wind and carry you away in an unexpected melody. Appreciated by musicians, they are often used in musical compositions. Many sound therapists, yoga teachers and healing facilitators around the world use them.
The Terra Melody in Detail
NOTES AND HARMONICS
Comprising of the notes G C E F G C E G the Terra melody corresponds to C major. Each of its eight steel rods is tuned by hand, with reference to 432 Hz, until it finds its right place within the harmonic ensemble. Thanks to a harmonic correction specific to Koshi, the lower and higher notes naturally respond to one another. This sonic architecture gives Terra its depth, its stability and this sense of living harmony, always in tune, even when the notes appear in an unexpected order. The four melodies of the 4 Elements collection were designed to be played alone or in dialogue with one another within the same collection. Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis can therefore respond freely to one another: their chords remain coherent, whatever combination is chosen.
SOUND CHARACTER
Terra is the lowest-pitched scale in the 4 Elements collection. Its warm and enveloping timbre may evoke strength and stability, with low notes that establish a calm and deep presence. Each rod sounds its fundamental note, but also more subtle harmonics, which resonate with the instrument as a whole. From this conversation between the notes emerges a continuous, deep and soothing halo of sound.
Handcrafted Production and Specifications
HAND-TUNED IN THE PYRENEES
Every single Koshi Terra chime is handcrafted at the foot of the French Pyrenees. The craftsperson solders with silver eight steel rods onto a metal base, then tunes them one by one, with meticulous attention to their pitch, the accuracy and the balance of the whole. The bamboo resonance chamber amplifies the vibrations and gives the Koshi chime its long, warm resonance.

How to Play the Koshi Terra Chime
BASIC MOVEMENTS
Hold the Koshi Terra chime by its cord and let it hang freely. Turn it gently with a slight movement of the wrist: the central clapper sets the rods into vibration and brings forth a cascade of clear and enveloping notes. The broader the movement, the more the rods are set in motion. Or swing it gently in a pendulum motion to play individual notes. The Koshi chime can also simply be suspended, allowing the wind to play it through melodies that are always unexpected.
DURING MEDITATION
The melody of the Koshi Terra chime can, for example, introduce and conclude a meditation session.
IN SOUND THERAPY AND SOUND YOGA
In sound practices, the Koshi Terra chime naturally finds its place alongside singing bowls, gongs or other harmonic instruments. Its lightness allows practitioners to move it easily through the space, to open a sequence, mark a change of rhythm or guide listening towards silence.
Caring for the Koshi Chime Indoors, the Koshi chime requires no particular maintenance. To preserve its resonance and the natural beauty of its materials, it is enough to keep it in a dry space, protected from prolonged humidity.
Outdoors, it should always be placed under shelter, protected from rain and the weather. Like any wooden instrument exposed to the environment, it can be given suitable protection, such as a clear varnish for exterior woodwork, to be renewed regularly. Slight marks may appear on the metal parts over time, without affecting the sound quality of the instrument.
