Koshi Chime, a favourite sound healing instrument. They leave everyone relaxed and in wonder during Yoga Savasana and Sound Healing Baths. These majestic chimes are handmade in France at the foot of the Pyrenean mountains. Inspired by the Fire element, the Koshi Ignis chime has the liveliest and most luminous sound character in the 4 Elements collection. Tuned to 432 Hz, it has a pentatonic scale that may evoke vitality and creativity, while retaining Koshi’s distinctive harmonic softness. Its clear resonance brings a warm and dynamic character, always carried by the balance of the chord. The 4 Elements collection is available in four melodies, based on nature's elements

  • Terra (earth)

  • Aqua (water)

  • Aria (air)

  • Ignis (fire)

Each has its own magic timbre and can be played harmoniously with all the others. Move the chime gently holding it by its cord: the crystalline relaxing sound may leave you in quiet wonder. Suspended, it will play with the wind and carry you away in an unexpected melody. Appreciated by musicians, they are often used in musical compositions. Many sound therapists, yoga teachers and healing facilitators around the world use them.

The Ignis melody in detail

NOTES AND HARMONICS

Comprising of the notes G B D G B D G A the Ignis melody corresponds to pentatonic G major. Its eight rods are individually tuned by hand, with reference to 432 Hz, until they find their right place within the harmonic ensemble. Thanks to a harmonic correction specific to Koshi, the lower and higher notes naturally respond to one another. This sonic architecture gives Ignis its warmth, its luminosity and this sense of a living chord, always in tune, even when the notes appear in an unexpected order. The four melodies of the 4 Elements collection were designed to be played alone or in dialogue with one another within the same collection. Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis can therefore respond freely to one another: their chords remain coherent, whatever combination is chosen.

SOUND CHARACTER

Ignis is the liveliest and most luminous melody in the 4 Elements collection. Its pentatonic chord evokes the Fire element: a clear, light and radiant presence that inspires movement without ever breaking Koshi’s distinctive softness. Ignis brings a warm and dynamic sound character, ideal for opening a space for listening, accompanying a musical creation or introducing a sense of momentum into a sound practice.

Handcrafted production and specifications HAND-TUNED IN THE PYRENEES

Each Koshi Ignis chime is made at the foot of the French Pyrenees. The craftsperson solders eight steel rods with silver onto a metal base, then tunes them one by one, with meticulous attention to their pitch, accuracy and the balance of the whole. The bamboo resonance chamber amplifies the vibrations and gives the Koshi chime its long and warm resonance.

How to play the Koshi Ignis chime

BASIC MOVEMENTS

Hold the Koshi Ignis chime by its cord and let it hang freely. Turn it gently with a slight movement of the wrist: the central clapper sets the rods into vibration and brings forth a cascade of clear and luminous notes. The broader the movement, the more the rods are set in motion. Or swing it gently in a pendulum motion to play individual notes. The Koshi chime can also simply be suspended, allowing the wind to play it through melodies that are always unexpected.

DURING MEDITATION

The melody of the Koshi Ignis chime can, for example, introduce and conclude a meditation session.

IN SOUND THERAPY AND SOUND YOGA

In sound practices, the Koshi Ignis chime naturally finds its place alongside singing bowls, gongs or other harmonic instruments. Its lightness allows practitioners to move it easily through the space, to let the sound circulate, support a change in dynamics or guide listening toward silence. Caring for the Koshi Chime Indoors, the Koshi chime requires no particular maintenance. To preserve its resonance and the natural beauty of its materials, it is enough to keep it in a dry space, protected from prolonged humidity.

Outdoors, it should always be placed under shelter, protected from rain and the weather. Like any wooden instrument exposed to the environment, it can be given suitable protection, such as a clear varnish for exterior woodwork, to be renewed regularly. Slight marks may appear on the metal parts over time, without affecting the sound quality of the instrument.
