This is why we believe Pregnancy Yoga is the ideal practice for expectant mothers:
A Holistic Approach to Wellness
Pregnancy Yoga offers more than just physical movement; it provides a holistic approach to wellness that takes into account the changes happening within your body and the emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies pregnancy. Through carefully designed postures, gentle stretches, and breathing techniques, Pregnancy Yoga cultivates a harmonious balance between body and mind.
Nurturing Your Changing Body
As your body goes through the incredible process of creating life, it's important to choose exercises that adapt to your changing needs. Pregnancy Yoga focuses on poses that gently stretch and strengthen the muscles needed to support your growing belly and shifting centre of gravity. These poses also alleviate common discomforts like back pain, swollen ankles, and tension in the shoulders.
Connecting with Your Baby
Pregnancy Yoga encourages you to connect with your baby in a profound way. Through mindful breathing and meditation practices, you create a serene environment within yourself, which in turn affects the environment your baby experiences. This connection is not only soothing for you but can also have a positive impact on your baby's development and well-being.
Managing Stress and Anxiety
Pregnancy can bring about a mix of emotions, from excitement and joy to anxiety and apprehension. Yoga is well-respected to alleviate stress, and Pregnancy Yoga takes it a step further by incorporating relaxation techniques that help you manage stress and anxiety. The deep breathing exercises and mindfulness practices can alleviate tension, promote better sleep, and enhance your overall emotional balance.
Preparing for Childbirth
Labour and childbirth require both physical and mental stamina. Pregnancy Yoga equips you with tools to navigate this transformative experience with more confidence and ease. The breathing techniques you learn in class can be applied during labour to manage pain and promote relaxation. The focus on building core strength and pelvic floor stability can contribute to a smoother childbirth experience.

Lifestyle integration for a harmonious life during your pregnancy and your journey into motherhood
Pre- and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Marjolein: “I believe emphasis could be placed on embracing a pregnancy from the inside out. Embarking on this time in your life with your soul fully open as your body, mind and heart adapts in the lead up to your little being's arrival. Less focus on what pregnancy 'should look like', More focus on how you're feeling and what helps you radiate from your heart all the way down to your womb.”

When can I start maternity yoga? For absolute beginners, the optimal time to begin yoga during pregnancy is the second trimester, around 12 weeks in. It's advisable to have a more gentle practice in the first trimester if you're not accustomed to yoga. If you are practising in the first trimester, focus on relaxation, gentle breathing practices and mantra. For experienced practitioners, consider adapting your routine to accommodate your changing body.
-
Does yoga make labour easier? In the early stages of labour, engaging in yoga can prove highly advantageous by alleviating pressure on the pelvic floor. Movement, especially slow yogic stretching, throughout labour is strongly recommended to help with pain management. Within our course we guide you through these special yoga poses with a combination of deep belly breathing to help support physical relief and mental relaxation during labour. We will also practice specific breath practices to help with active labour.
-
Can pregnancy yoga help with back pain?Yes, pregnancy yoga includes poses and stretches that can help alleviate back pain and improve posture. As every body and experience is unique, Marjolein helps guide you towards positions that will specifically alleviate discomfort and help strengthen and stabilise your changing body.
